A new intranet allows the Beebe Healthcare Team to communicate more than eve
Beebe Healthcare’s marketing team was tasked with improving internal communications among hospital administration and staff. The current intranet was static and hard to navigate so the team turned to Inclind, its ongoing web development partner, to design and build an improved internal communications system that was fresh and engaging.
The goal of the intranet was to keep administration and staff in the loop on events and news as well as provide quick and easy access to commonly shared files and other information both organization-wide and across departments. A key consideration was that the intranet should be easy-to-use with an emphasis on a positive user experience to keep people coming back.
After conducting discovery on finding the right technology to create a scalable intranet that would facilitate these goals, the Inclind team, consisting of Shaun Tyndall on account management, Kelsey Murphy on project management, Bryan Cordrey as technical lead, Amy Wood on design, Nick Bumgarner and Dalton Tyndall on front end and Veronica Severyn on back end development, proposed Open Social, a Drupal distribution for building online communities.
The team customized Open Social’s baked in features to meet Beebe’s goals and added some capabilities to facilitate static content like commonly accessed files. A bookmarks menu was built as a custom feature and an alerts mechanism was included to allow for communication in case of emergency.
The result is BeebeNet, a Facebook-style application complete with feeds of news posts, events and announcements. Phase one of BeebeNet was rolled out last week and met with positive feedback (YAY).
