Become Proficient with Drupal

Drupal is software that allows users to build and run a website. While Drupal has a lot of great features, it may not necessarily be intuitive if you're new to the content management system. Depending on your website, you may even need some coding knowledge to manage your Drupal site.

Inclind understands that many site owners don't just want to rely on Drupal web developers like us to maintain their Drupal websites - they want to know how to do it themselves. We offer comprehensive Drupal training that goes far beyond typical video-style training lessons. Our goal is to help our clients become truly proficient in Drupal.

We offer 6 sessions of live video call training that cover everything that you need to know about Drupal. These one-on-one lessons give you the opportunity to ask questions and really dig into the subject so that you can gain a high level of experience and knowledge with the product. If you're interested in Drupal training, give us a call at 800-604-8139 or fill out a contact form to schedule your live trainings with a member of our team.

At Inclind, we are Drupal experts and official Drupal Association Members. Over the course of 6 live video sessions, we will cover everything that you need to know about Drupal, including:

  1. What is Drupal?
  2. How do I build or manage a Drupal site?
  3. How do I create themes for Drupal?
  4. How do I extend Drupal's functionality?
  5. How do I migrate or upgrade my site to the latest Drupal version?
  6. How do I prep for an Acquia certification exam?

This gives you the advantage of our real world expertise and training that is both relevant and responsive to your needs as a participant.

Our Drupal trainers will answer questions as each session proceeds, and help with specific issues. We also offer flexible scheduling and ongoing support to ensure that both you and your team can apply your new Drupal skills with confidence.

Below, we explain more about each topic covered to give you an overview of what you can expect when you hire Inclind for Drupal training.

You have questions

we have the answers.

What Is Drupal?

A powerful open-source web content management system.

Drupal is a free, open-source web content management system. Open source software means that anyone can inspect, modify, and enhance the source code. It is the alternative to proprietary software - Adobe Experience Manager - that you either have to purchase outright or pay an annual licensing fee to use.

Drupal is used to build and manage websites ranging from personal blogs to government agencies to higher education institutions to corporate websites. The standard Drupal software - known as Drupal core - has basic features such as user account registration, RSS feeds, menu management, categorization, page layout customization, and administrative functions. Basic installation of Drupal and administration of a simple Drupal site require no programming skills.

However, the reason that most people choose Drupal over other CMS is because it is highly customizable and can be easily scaled. When you add features and functionality, you may need some coding knowledge. Understanding what Drupal is - and how it works - is critical to not only building but maintaining a site powered by Drupal. During training sessions, our Drupal experts will provide an overview of what Drupal is and what you can accomplish with this software.

How Do I Build or Manage a Drupal Site?

It starts with choosing a hosting provider where your website will “live.” Next, you'll need to download Drupal and then upload the files to your hosting server before creating a MySQL database and installing Drupal.

Once Drupal is installed, you will have a basic Drupal website that can be customized. You will need to log into the administrative dashboard. Once there, you can customize themes, install modules, and add content.

The dashboard itself is fairly straightforward, with options like “Content,” “Structure,” “Appearance,” and “Configuration.” You can also customize the administrative dashboard to feature the options that you use the most - like “add content” to create new pages or posts.

This description provides a birds-eye view of the process of building and managing a site. When you're doing it yourself, there are a lot more details to consider, such as:

  • Choosing the perfect theme from the Drupal theme repository. The theme should not only work with your organization's purpose and style but work with your desired functionality.
  • Creating content types for products, events, news articles, and blog posts.
  • Creating navigation menus so that users can find what they want on your site.
  • Designing the layout of the homepage and all subpages.
  • Finding and installing modules to extend functionality through the Drupal module repository.

If this all seems a bit overwhelming, have no fear: our Drupal training sessions cover these and other facets of building and managing a Drupal site. We will walk you through the process and answer any questions that you may have.

How Do I Create Themes for Drupal?

A theme is essentially the backbone of a Drupal website. It creates the framework for your entire website. The theme also establishes a certain look and style for the site.

In addition to core themes, there are thousands of themes available for download through Drupal's repository. There are also third-party marketplaces and developer websites that offer Drupal themes. The key is to pick a theme that works for your organization's needs - and that is both secure and compatible with the latest Drupal version.

Once you have chosen a theme, you will need to install it through the administrative dashboard. While this process can be relatively simple, you will still have to customize the theme settings such as color scheme and layout.

Choosing a theme can be overwhelming with so many options available. It can also be difficult to know what theme will fit your brand's aesthetics AND work with your desired functions. During a Drupal training session, our Drupal experts will give you advice on how to find the best theme to create a website that works for your organization.

How Do I Extend Drupal’s Functionality?

Drupal core is easy to install - but it lacks a lot of functions that many website owners want. If you are building a Drupal website, then you will almost certainly want to add modules to enhance functionality.

To start, you will need to identify what you want your website to do. You can then search the Drupal module repository to look for modules that offer the functions and features that you want. Before deciding on a module, you should read the description and review to determine their quality and compatibility with the version of Drupal that you are running. You should also look to see if it is in active development status with community support, putting modules with regular updates and bug fixes first on your list.

Once you have chosen a module, you can install it directly from your Drupal dashboard. The key here is choosing high-quality modules that will work with your site. Inclind's Drupal training will help you understand what these modules can do for your website - and what to look for when selecting a module.

How Do I Migrate or Upgrade My Site to the Latest Drupal Version?

Keeping your Drupal updated is important for several reasons, including improved security, simplified upgrades, access to new modules and features, and enhanced website performance.

Staying on top of Drupal updates is undoubtedly important - but it isn't necessarily easy. There are 3 main options for upgrading your Drupal to the latest version: (1) through Composer; (2) manually using the dashboard and the command line; or (3) via Drush. No matter which option you choose, you will have to go through multiple steps. You will also have to update any installed modules and themes using Composer. Failure to do so can cause your site to crash or simply not work as planned.

Upgrading or migrating your site and all associated themes and modules is a multi-step process. Doing it incorrectly can cause problems with your site, so it's important to know what you're doing before getting started. Our Drupal training sessions cover why you should update Drupal. We also explain exactly what you need to do - and which upgrade method you should use - to successfully update your site.
Acquia Certification

How Do I Prep for an Acquia Certification Exam?

Looking to become certified?

An Acquia certification demonstrates proficiency with Drupal and is a great resume booster. While not all of our clients plan to get an Acquia certification, it can be an excellent option for anyone that is more interested in website design and development.

Preparing for an Acquia exam can be challenging. The test itself is fairly pricey and the exam can be stressful (even though you take it at home from your own computer!). To become Acquia Certified in Drupal, you will need to take four exams:

  • Acquia Certified Drupal 10 Site Builder
  • Acquia Certified Drupal 10 Developer
  • Acquia Certified Drupal 10 Front End Specialist
  • Acquia Certified Drupal 10 Back End Specialist

Each exam will analyze a test-taker's ability to utilize various Drupal features. Acquia offers free study guides for each section, but that may not be enough for many people. Hands-on experience and additional training is also recommended.

At Inclind, we know what to expect - and how to prepare you. If you're interested in taking an Acquia certification exam, we can help you achieve the best possible outcome.
