Several years ago, the main street towns of Delmarva got together to pool forces to promote the localness of their towns through a partnership called Tourism and Downtown Development (TADD). The theme, Eat. Drink. Buy Art on Delmarva, is about small-town experiences focused on hand-crafted, unique and locally-made — from beers and cuisine, arts and crafts, shopping and performing arts.
As the organization evolved so did the need for a website that effectively promotes the partnership by connecting the places, people, events and products so that visitors can get a sense of of the experiences available around these partner towns. Rather than be a duplicate of business or restaurant directories that are already out there on the members’ websites, the goal is to use editorial content to drive visitors to the member websites to plan their visits.
While we develop many of our enterprise websites on Drupal, we felt WordPress was the right fit for this project with its baked in blogging capabilities and ease-of-use so we went with a magazine-style Wordpress theme and customized it to fit the brand. We fully optimized the website pre- and post-launch to set the foundation for SEO success. Partners are invited to contribute relevant content to keep the site fresh with ongoing analysis, support and maintenance provided by Inclind.
“We are excited to launch this site and generate more awareness in what our local towns have to offer,” said Lisa Challenger, executive director of Worcester County Tourism and TADD chairperson. “We see this partnership evolving and growing with the new website as the hub of our marketing communication.”
