Transforming the U.S. Travel Association's Online Magazine

The collective strength of over 1,100 member organizations growing the $1.5 trillion U.S. travel industry.

The U.S. Travel Association, a leading organization in the travel industry, was looking to modernize its online presence to better engage with its audience and provide value to event sponsors. Known for promoting travel and tourism across the United States, the association sought to transform its existing online magazine into a more dynamic and user-friendly website that aligns with contemporary web standards.

U.S. Travel Association is the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the travel industry. Travelers in the United States are estimated to spend $1.1 trillion in 2022 (still 10% below 2019 levels). U.S. Travel advocates for policies to accelerate an even recovery across the travel industry and restore economic and job growth for this essential contributor to our nation’s success.

The Challenge:

The main challenge was converting the online magazine format into a responsive and efficient website that could provide a richer user experience and accommodate a variety of content types. The existing platform was outdated, with slow page load times, limited media management capabilities, and an interface that did not fully comply with modern accessibility standards. Additionally, the website needed to incorporate advertising components for event sponsors while ensuring that content delivery could be customized by issue.

Our Solution:

Inclind partnered with the U.S. Travel Association to create a tailored solution that addressed each of these challenges:

  1. Custom Content Delivery: We developed a platform capable of delivering magazine content tailored by issue, offering a seamless transition from the old format to a new, more engaging website experience.
  2. Advertising Integration: We integrated advertising components within the website to provide value to event sponsors. This enhanced sponsors' visibility and aligned with the association's goals to monetize their digital content.
  3. Streamlined Content Management: Our team conducted a comprehensive investigation into the content management process. This analysis revealed key opportunities to simplify workflows, making it easier for the association's team to manage and update content.
  4. Enhanced Performance: We focused on reducing page rendering time across all templates to meet Google Core Web Vitals standards. By optimizing the site's performance, we ensured faster load times, resulting in a more enjoyable user experience.
  5. Improved Media Management: We identified and implemented strategies to enhance the website's media management capabilities. This improvement allowed for better handling and rendering of images and videos, further enriching the user experience.
  6. Accessibility Compliance: Ensuring accessibility was a priority. The new website was developed to comply with the latest WCAG 2.2 AA standards, making it more accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
  7. Quality Assurance and Testing: A comprehensive quality assurance and user acceptance testing were performed to ensure the website was bug-free and functioned as expected on all devices and browsers.
  8. Advanced Analytics Integration: To provide the U.S. Travel Association with actionable insights, we implemented Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4. This setup allows for detailed tracking of user interactions, helping the association understand audience behavior and optimize content accordingly.
  9. Project Alignment: Throughout the project, Inclind worked closely with the U.S. Travel Association to ensure that the website refresh aligned with their timeline and budget. This collaboration ensured the project was completed on time and within the agreed parameters.

The Result:

The refreshed website now provides a modern, user-friendly experience expected to increase engagement, particularly with event attendees. With faster page load times, enhanced media handling, and a robust advertising platform, the U.S. Travel Association is better positioned to serve its members and sponsors. The site’s compliance with accessibility standards and the integration of advanced analytics further ensure it meets the needs of all users and provides valuable insights for continuous improvement.

Looking Forward

The successful completion of this project has laid a strong foundation for ongoing digital transformation at the U.S. Travel Association. As we continue to monitor the site’s performance and user engagement, we can further enhance the platform's capabilities. Inclind is committed to supporting the U.S. Travel Association in its mission to promote travel across the United States, ensuring the website remains a powerful tool in achieving this goal.
