We're Not Watching the AI Shift From the Sidelines

This Is Already Happening in Our Work

A few weeks ago, our development team took part in hands-on training with AI-assisted coding tools. Rather than a casual lunch-and-learn or a webinar, we worked through practical lessons on using these tools in real development projects. We also learned about subagent architecture, which means building AI systems from smaller programs that work together to automate multi-step tasks with little manual effort.

At the same time, we're looking into new AI modules for Drupal. These software components add AI features right into the Drupal CMS, making it possible to offer smarter search and chat features on client websites.

Both of these efforts show that AI is not just something we're planning for in the future. It's already part of our work and what we're creating for our clients.

What AI-Assisted Development Actually Means

There's a lot of talk about AI in the agency world, but most of it is about content generation, like creating text or images automatically. That's just a small part of what these tools can do. For developers, the bigger benefits are in writing, reviewing, and debugging code more quickly and accurately.

When tackling complex problems, AI coding tools serve as a helpful second set of eyes. They spot issues early, give helpful suggestions, and handle repetitive tasks. This lets developers focus on work that requires human judgment.

For clients, this means faster project completion, less time spent on debugging, and a team that stays current with how these tools work in real projects.

Why We Train on This Formally

Our developers are skilled and keep up with new trends, but knowing about tools isn't the same as being fluent with them. We set aside time for learning because without it, teams might only scratch the surface and miss out on what these tools can really do.

Our training goes beyond just learning the tools. It teaches us how to organize our work so that AI help builds up over time, not just speeds up single tasks. This higher level of skill lets us give clients better advice about what's possible for their platforms — whether that's a Drupal or WordPress site, or something more complex built with custom integrations.

What We're Building Toward for Clients

Improving our internal tools is one part of the story. The other, more important part for clients, is how these changes can help organizations looking at their own digital platforms.

Right now, we're looking into Drupal AI modules that could add two main features to client sites: smarter search that finds results based on what users are really looking for, not just keywords, and AI chat tools that answer questions directly from your site's content. These features are especially useful for organizations with a lot of information on their websites, like healthcare, universities, utilities, and nonprofits, where visitors often struggle to find what they need.

These features aren't just ideas. Drupal's AI modules are now advanced enough that we're having real discussions about putting them into practice. We're preparing now so clients can move fast when they're ready. That preparation also extends to how we approach DevOps and website support and maintenance — making sure the infrastructure is ready to support these capabilities when clients are.

The Honest Version of the AI Conversation

We won't claim that AI changes everything or that every website needs it right away. But agencies that aren't using these tools are already falling behind in understanding both their strengths and their limits, and knowing those limits is just as important as knowing what AI can do.

We aim to be the team that can talk honestly about what AI can really do for your site, based on real experience, not just marketing claims. If you're not sure where to start, website consulting is a good first step — it's how we help organizations figure out what's actually realistic for their platform and goals. Reaching this level of expertise takes work, and that's why we invest so much in training.
